Astounding results

Weather observations from balloon borne instruments from the ground to 100,000 feet are critical input to severe weather and seasonal forecast computer programs. The more historic data are provided, the better the forecasts.

Below is the U.S. National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) reception record from 1968-1991 of the upper-air meteorological observations received from Lilongwe, Malawi (Africa). The blue squares represent the days for which NCDC has upper-air weather data for Lilongwe in its data base. The red squares indicate those additional days of data resulting from our Data Rescue Project.

NCDC Data from Lilongwe increased from about 30% to over 90%.
